Himalaya
Location: The north-side of India.
States of India in the Himalayas: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Uttaranchal, West Bengal (northern part).
Indian rivers coming out of the Himalayas: The Ganges, Brahmaputra, Sutlez, Sindhu, Ravi, Iravati, Chandra-Bhaga etc.
History: Geologists say that in the place of the Himalayas, about 7 crore years ago, there was an ocean called the Tethis in between Uresian landmass and Indo_Australian land mass. They started moving to each other @ 15 Cm. per year. In this way about 2.5 Crores years ago Indo_australian land mass entered into Tibet part of Urasian landmass and started givvin pressure. As a result the ocean bed of Tethis Ocean started wrinkling upwards and the Himalayas was grown. That is why, the Himalayas is still growing @ 5 mm. per year.
The lakes of the Himalayas: There are numerous lakes in the Himalayas. In Hindi, they are called, ‘Tal’, like Nainital, Dodital, Deoriatal, Chandratal, Khechiperi-tal etc. In other words (local and tibetian) they are called ‘Tso’, like Pang-Gang Tso, Tso-Morari etc.
